Physics 1050: Concepts of Physics

The Final Exam, Spring 2012

The final this year will just be Exam 7.  All that distinguishes it from the first six exams is that it will be administered in a classroom on paper rather than on-line by Sakai.  It covers material after the last Sakai exam, namely magnetism, the Lorentz force, Faraday’s and Lenz’s laws, magnetic induction, light, and nuclear processes.

Below are links to all paper exams previously administered in the class.  They can give you an idea of the types of questions that you may be asked.  However, the final this semester will not be like most of these finals.  Some topics were covered in some years and not in others, and before spring 2011 the class had two in-class mid-term exams and one final.  Then, the final was a composite of the third exam and a comprehensive exam.  Now, the class has six on-line exams throughout the semester and one exam on paper during the final exam period.  This final will not be comprehensive.  It will not contain questions solely testing understanding of prior concepts.

As with the on-line exams, you still need to draw on prior concepts (velocity, work, conservation of energy, uniform circular motion, etc.) to answer the questions.  So although the on-line exams are not comprehensive, they are cumulative.  The final will be as well.
