Rotating Reference Frame Song

We Just Disagree

Music by Jim Krueger
Words by me

Here I stand
While you circle ’round and ’round.
It seems to you
That you’re standing on such solid ground.
But that isn’t what I see;
Your steady speed
Changes its direction constantly.

When we look at the world
From our different points of view
You see what you do, I see what I do,
Is there a reason to think only one is true?
Oo, oh.

You feel a force
That is always pushing out.
And if you move
It’s sideways that you’re pulled about.
And for those forces
Newton’s third law isn’t true.
That reference frame
Makes things seem so different to you.

So we find different rules
Even though our world’s the same
I see straight shootin’, and stand by Newton.
While paths are curved in your rotating ref’rence frame.
Oo, oh.

So between you and me,
The laws of physics aren’t the same.
You feel these forces that have no sources.
I see a Δv and we just disagree.
Oo, oh, oh.

Sing Along!

Download the music and join in! Right-click on the links below to download the music without the words (a MIDI file; several applications, such as Windows Media Player, can play this file), or, if you’re feeling brave, the accompaniment only, so you can sing the vocal line!

Note: If you right-click the links, your browser may play the files, but it may not. It depends on what add-ins it has installed. If you left-click on the links, you can directly download the files and play them with whatever player you have that works. Since these are MIDI files, they may sound different on different players.
